Part of the challenge with camping is to decide where you want to go.  Many factors play into this decision and its best, as with all things, to start at the beginning!  We suggest that the first question to ask yourself is how long of a timeframe do you have for your trip? Knowing your window of opportunity to get away will determine how far you want to travel and how ambitious your plan can and should be.  If you only have a weekend for your trip you do not want to spend your Saturday traveling there and your Sunday returning!  Save those long distance adventures for your week or so of vacation.

Next, what are you and your fellow traveler’s interests?  Do you like history, nature, hiking, biking or just napping by a river?  Are you traveling with kids or an older persons just wanting a little less adventure?  Are you planning a specific activity such as fishing or kayaking?

Now that you have some parameters for your trip, let’s look at some trip options we have put together for you to help with your planning.  We are fortunate in the West to have an amazing variety of terrain, flora and fauna, much of it contained in National Parks, State Parks and National Forests.  To help organize our trips we have divided them into the groups of :

  1. Gold Country, California
  2. Sierra Nevada, California
  3. California Coast
  4. Desert
  5. Grand Canyon, Flagstaff and Sedona, Arizona
  6. Zion and Bryce Canyon, Utah
  7. Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico
  8. The Rockies of Colorado

We hope you enjoy our compilation and we will strive to add more listings as we grow in the future. If you have any suggestions please send us a email or submit a comment below.
